Objectives of the meeting: to discuss the date, location and thematic agenda of the 6th Plenary Assembly of FIPA, to prepare for the 1st Joint Meeting between FIPA and the Parliamentary Confederation of the Americas (October 28-29, 2007, Quebec City, Canada), to follow-up on the Declaration adopted by the Executive Committee at its last meeting in Brasilia on the strengthening of Organization of Americas States (OAS) and FIPA relations, to discuss strategies to consolidate FIPA’s membership base in parliaments of the region, and to follow-up on the implementation of the annual work plan, with particular emphasis on the initiative of the President of the Group of Women Parliamentarians to hold, in the first semester of 2008, a Congress of men and women parliamentarians to create a regional legislative agenda with a gender perspective.
Other activities held on October 23 & 24 included a meeting with the OAS Secretary General, a presentation by the President of FIPA to the OAS Permanent Council and meetings with various members of the United States’ House of Representatives, including the chair of the Sub-Committee on the Western Hemisphere, Representative Eliot Engel.
Objectives of the meeting:
to analyze several projects moving forward on the capacity building initiative and implementing the recommendations of FIPA’s 5th Plenary Assembly, to draft a declaration for the Executive Committee’s observation mission to the 37th General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS) in Panama, to begin preparations for the 6th Plenary Assembly, and to plan the first meeting of the FIPA/COPA working group.

Objectives: to provide essential information on trade regulation and politics to parliamentarians in a manner that was relevant to their concerns and those of their constituents, and to provide a framework for dealing with poverty, development, social movements, and gender, among others, within the trade policy context.
